There is power when you pray

This poem came out of one of our Powerhouse prayer meetings where I was reminded that there is power on our prayers because it's God we pray to!

There is power when you pray

You may have come here
With questions tonight
Wondering whether
Your praying arm is strong for the fight
Whether your prayers are mighty enough
If the strength in your words is spiritually buff

Well, wonder no more my friends, come what may,
When you raise your voice, there is power when you pray!
For your prayers have power far beyond your ends
His hand is the one that broken can mend.
When you bring petitions and prayers to His ear
You need not come frailly or shaking with fear

You come to the one who breathed life to our world
Yet when we bring our prayers, all his power is unfurled!
His rainbow of love has no shade of grey,
When you call on his name there is power when you pray!
Your own words are weak things, no power in themself,
But brought to our father, he heaps on them wealth.

When you ask of your father the smallest of things
The creator of all bends his ear to these things
And always, in all things, whether giant or small
With love and with grace, he answers them all.
So, rise to your feet no matter your day,
And know to be true there is power when you pray!

In Old testament times, Phineas asked of our king
To close up the land, an impossible thing!
But our father listened and against all earthly odds
He closed up the ground and saved all those poor sods.
If he in his mercy would save a whole nation,
Just as much he'll be swayed by your conversation.

Know once and for all, each and every day,
When you ask of our God, there is power when you pray.
So, bring him your prayer, ask for much and for little,
Know your power great and let no man belittle
A loved, chosen child who bears their heart to their dad
In whose eyes no heart-felt prayer is ever bad.

But who, with much love, wants to bless those you know.
Bring your greatest of needs and straight to him go!
So ask of him great things as in Phineas' day
Knowing our father adds his power when you choose to pray!
